Debbie Horovitch Yoga Where You Are |
About... I've been practicing yoga regularly for nearly five years and still I feel like a beginner every day. Every day is a surprise: how inflexible some parts of my body are, how some asanas are one day a joy to practice and other days the same posture takes me on a journey of self doubt and discomfort; the more I learn about yoga, the more I know there's still to learn and that this is a special gift I can share with others. I'm grateful to have a fantastic body, of average beauty, health & physical abilities - I have never had much hand-eye coordination, but am naturally flexible and aware of my body. Challenges with my weight, an inflammatory/arthritic disease and a recent car accident have all reminded me of how yoga is always there to help heal the heart, body & mind.
What I enjoy most about yoga is being able to help guide people through a practice that surprises them (its not as easy or hard as they expected, not as boring as they thought, they felt exhilarated or content after class), and with time, they start to see the positive impact yoga is having on their lives not on the mat. Yoga reminds me that in order to share with others, I have to unabashedly pursue all my dreams, big and small and not to let anyone else's ideas affect me. The biggest compliment anyone ever paid me was to say that I was probably "the most genuine person" they had ever met - certainly, I allow my emotions to be expressed. I have enjoyed a career in advertising over the last 10 years, and continue to balance that with my other passions & pursuits. Recently, I've begun to enjoy a renewed interest for expressing myself in writing and have been hired to write articles for a variety of written-word media. I'm not sure what's next for me, but I am hoping to return to Scottsdale, Arizona for the Level II Yoga For Golfers TM certification as soon as it is available, and plan to continue learning about physiology, health, nutrition and have some FUN! My yoga education & certifications include:
A new series of traditional Hatha yoga asana practiced in a heated room (37 degrees Celsius). The teacher training is a comprehensive course over 13+ months, which begins with an intensive 30-day full-time program comprised of [daily] 5 hours+ of yoga practice & posture clinics and 6 hours+ daily of lectures & hands-on instruction from respected & accomplished individuals in the yoga community, including:

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
